The big day!

Today's the big day!

Now that all the weeks and months of chemotherapy are over, it's time for Catherine's surgery. With a bag packed full of comfortable clothing, we're off to spend the night at the very fancy Josie Robertson Surgery Center at MSKCC.

As I write this, Catherine is currently in the operating room and has a few more hours to go. Last we heard from the patient, spirits were very high. Before they wheeled her off, she received a dose of Midazolam that the nurse happily compared to "three big glasses of red wine," even though Catherine the champion hardly needs the liquid courage. That said, we very much appreciated the calm, reassuring confidence of Dr. Plitas, our surgeon. Nothing to worry about, he does this all the time!

Catherine's Aunt Rosie and friend Phoebe have been accompanying us during this latest adventure and have been wonderfully supportive already. Catherine will be spending the night in the surgery center with me and a platoon of nurses at her beck and call. Judging from earlier surgical experiences, Catherine can be a little wobbly when coming off of anesthetic. But we'll be sure to keep everyone up to date when she gets her bearings. Thank you for all the support, everyone, she certainly feels very loved and appreciated. All those positive vibes are helping her heal.
