Abraxane Treatment

In the last post my mom mentioned that we were waiting and hoping for our insurance to approve Abraxane, a new chemo treatment for last Wednesday. When that didn't happen, it was a frustrating few days, with lots of time spent on phone calls bouncing between departments at both the insurance and the hospital and wondering when things would get back on track. I finally received a call early Friday afternoon asking me to come in for treatment later that day. Luckily Quincy and I were both available so we hopped on the train and headed to the Upper East Side. We've learned by now to check in at the blood center, have blood drawn, and then to leave the hospital for about an hour before the infusion suite will be ready. We've had some gorgeous days here in NYC the last week so we were able to walk around for a bit and have some lunch before heading back to the hospital for chemo. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the Abraxane requires no pre-treatment drugs (yay!) and only takes about half an hour to administer (yay again!). The nurses were cautious and had a whole "in case of allergy" pack on hand, but everything went as smoothly as possible and I left feeling better than any previous treatment! I felt great through the weekend and found that I didn't need any of the prescribed anti-nausea medications that I was using with the previous Taxol. I was able to spend the weekend doing errands and visiting with friends. Today I'm paying the price though and my FitBit says I've only walked 376 steps at 9pm! Definitely a record low for me, yikes! Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day :)
